Springfield, IL - The Illinois Association of Fire Protection Districts (IAFPD) presented Senator Michael Frerichs (D-Gifford) with their Legislator of the Year Award at the annual Fire Service Luncheon. The award recognizes Frerichs' continued support of the fire service and his legislative efforts with Illinois' firefighters in mind.
"It is a great honor to receive this award from a group whose members put their lives on the line for the people of communities on a daily basis," said Senator Frerichs. "Being a volunteer firefighter, I know the importance of the service the men and women of the IAFPD provide to our communities, and I want to be able to assist them any way I can."
Frerichs has been a volunteer firefighter with the Gifford Fire Protection District since 2003. He supported numerous pieces of legislation benefiting fire districts, firefighters and other public servants this legislative session.
"Senator Frerichs accessibility and cooperation with our fire district members and legislative staff has been greatly appreciated," said IAFPD President Michael Dillon. "When asked or called upon to support the fire service in Illinois, Senator Frerichs has not hesitated to provide his assistance and support."
The IAFPD, which represents over 600 fire districts throughout the State of Illinois, will also purchase a commemorative brick in the name of Senator Frerichs that will be placed at the Firefighter Memorial located at the State Capitol in Springfield.
