FRERICHS HOSTS AG ROUNDTABLE
SPRINGFIELD, IL – In preparation for the upcoming spring legislation session, State Senator Michael Frerichs (D – Champaign), Chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Conservation, hosted a Legislative Roundtable yesterday in Danville to discuss issues of concern for the agricultural community.
“Because agriculture is such an integral part of Illinois, ag issues are State issues,” said Frerichs. “When I talk with folks from the agriculture community, I always get an honest assessment of what’s happening at the State level—and I take that assessment back to Springfield with me.”
A diverse list of issues were discussed, from the State’s backlog of unpaid bills, to Illinois’ tax structure, to education reform. Frerichs was joined by members of the Vermilion County Farm Bureau and Mike Marron of the Illinois Soybean Association.
"We were happy to have Senator Frerichs come in and talk to our legislative committee,” said Marron. “It is a policy of our committee to create and maintain relationships with legislators and we appreciate Senator Frerichs taking the time to come and discuss these important issues with us."
Frerichs has hosted Legislative Roundtables throughout the late summer and fall focused on different policy areas, including health care and economic development. This agriculture roundtable was the third of such events.
