FRERICHS HOSTS BUSINESS WORKSHOP IN DANVILLE

SPRINGFIELD, IL – In partnership with the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) and Vermilion Advantage, State Senator Michael Frerichs (D – Champaign) hosted an unemployment insurance workshop for local businesses in Danville on Wednesday.

"I thought it was useful to receive an overall view of the unemployment benefit process," said James Mulvaney of First Financial Bank in Danville. “I thought the workshop was great and was happy for the opportunity to participate.”

With instruction from IDES, over 60 local business people learned about available tax credits, the Illinois labor market, and how best to navigate the unemployment insurance system.  The workshop also included role play activities based on actual cases and unemployment hearings.

"I found the workshop to be very helpful and I learned a lot of new things,” said Melody Ehrlich of Bud Electronics Supply Company in Danville. “Most of all, for me, It reiterated the importance of documentation and reassured me that I’m doing the right things to protect my business.”

Senator Frerichs joined the workshop, even participating in a role play of an unemployment hearing.

“I view it as my responsibility to help constituents navigate state government and link them to information and resources,” said Frerichs. “I’m always looking for ways to facilitate opportunities like this one, and encourage my constituents to let me or my office know about ways we can be of service.”
